Western media stories about Egypt unfair – MP
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Cairo, Mr Nader Mostafa has slammed the Western media for engaging in a deliberate ploy to undermine the sovereignty of Egypt and its people.
He said Egypt has become a target for rumour mongering where the Western media misrepresent facts about the country just to ruin efforts being made by the current regime whose intentions are to bring peace and harmony to the people.
The MP made the assertion when he interacted with 46 journalists drawn from 22 African countries who are in Egypt at the invitation of the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development, to deliberate on the: “The Role of Journalists in the Future of Africa.”
Mr Mostafa who also serves as Deputy Chairman on the Defense and National Committee in the Egyptian Parliament, noted that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi interest is to ensure that the people of Egypt are free from any form of abuse.
He said the interest of the Western world is to see total chaos, disunity and lack of harmony and peace in Egypt.
He said Egyptians have the desire to rebuild their country and are therefore eager, willing and ready to make positive sacrifices to achieve the goal.
He said Egyptians are now free to speak their minds, engage in legitimate businesses and move to any part of the country they desire.
Mr Mostafa indicated that government is determined to ensure that obstacles that derailed the country’s effective development are nib in the bud.
The MP mentioned some porches of disturbances, especially in Cairo and said some of these actions were expected, as some disgruntled individuals were behind it.
He said these actions could not deter government from pursuing its policies of quality education, good health, good governance and economic prosperity to the benefit of the Egyptian people.
As a Journalist, Mr Mostafa urged his colleagues from Africa to avoid portraying the continent as a dark place in the 21st century and concentrate on the positives.
He said Africa is a continent full of opportunities and it is only Africans who could develop Africa.
“If journalists cooperate and effectively network, half of the problems Africa is going through would have been solved,” he added.
He disclosed that the current regime has tailored series of programmes to engage the youth to be employable.
He said currently, government has put up structures for mass irrigation to tilt the desert where the youth are encouraged to venture into food production including vegetables, fruits, animal rearing among others for local consumption and for export.
