Abedi Pele appointed Coach of World XI
Abedi Pele has been named as the coach of the star studded World XI team that will take on Kumasi Asante Kotoko and the Black Stars in the Vodafone Unity Match (VUM) 2016.
The former thee time African footballer of the year and a EUFA champions league winner with Olympique de Marseille is to coach the world XI team to be captained by former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah.
The two leg matches is aimed at promoting peace and unity before, during and after the upcoming elections in Ghana.
The game, which was put together by Primeval Media, will see the star studded team take on Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports stadium and the Black Stars at the Ohene Djan stadium on June 8 and 11 respectively.
World stars who have confirmed their participation ahead of the game include former European stars like Dwight Yorke and Louis Saha, ex-England internationals Sol Campbell, Emile Heskey and Jermain Defoe and Dutch greats Patrick Kluivert, George Boateng, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Edgar Davids.
Other international players from Africa who will also take part are ex-Black Stars midfield trio of Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari and Laryea Kingson, with Augustine Arhinful, Richard Kingston, as well as Nigerian international Yakubu Aiyegbeni, and former Arsenal stars Emmanuel Eboue, Alexander Song and Emmanuel Adebayor participating.
Global telecommunication giants, Vodafone- Ghana, is the title sponsor of the two-leg 2016 Unity Match.
