Stanbic Bank Ghana has launched the 2016 edition of the Stanbic Jazz Festival  which will feature Bob James, the two-time Grammy Award winner and smooth jazz keyboardist in Accra.

The event, scheduled for the Accra International Conference Centre from June 24-26, 2016, will also have on the bill saxophonist Tom Braxton and a host of local acts, notably Aka Blay, Ben Ayisah, Kyekyeku and Constant Boty.

Speaking at the launch, Mr Mawuko Afadzinu, Head of Marketing and Communications Stanbic Bank, said the bank had over the last three years treated patrons to top-flight jazz musicians such as Peter White and Earl Klugh.

“Over the past three years, we have been ensuring that the Stanbic Jazz Festival gains recognition as a stop on the global jazz calendar by presenting top-flight musicians to the people of Ghana,” he said.

“This year we are presenting Bob James to cement the plan of making this a must-attend event on the jazz circuit. Stanbic Bank’s association with such world class talent is to buttress the point that we aim to deliver world class service,” said Mr Afadzinu.

Mr Afadzinu said Stanbic’s vision is to contribute in positive ways to the local economy by developing and growing the music industry, thereby providing employment, training and skills development in all the related fields of technical production, including sound engineering and lighting, marketing, Public Relations, event management and hospitality.

“It is in this direction that this year’s festival has a training workshop for local artistes to expose them to new development on the jazz scene and for cross-fertilisation of knowledge.”

Mr Afadzinu said the expectation is to get as many as 4,500 patrons to participate in the festival.

As part of Stanbic’s support for worthy causes, the event will be in aid of the Leukaemia Foundation of Ghana.

Renowned for the complexity of his arrangements and instrumentals, the career of Bob James is long, varied and continues to evolve at every turn. From his days in Marshall Missouri, the music of Bob James has captivated audiences throughout the world.
