Accra flooded following Thursday rains
A greater part of the national capital- Accra, experienced heavy floods on Thursday morning as a result of heavy rain fall.
The stretch of road between the Kotoka International Airport and the Shiashie intersection was flooded, bringing traffic to a stand-still because no one wanted to risk driving through the floods.
Other places that experienced heavy flooding were the Tetteh Quarshie interchange, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, the road in front of the Lekma Hospital in Labadi, and the Fiesta Royal Hotel at Dzorwulu.
The Ghana News Agency (GNA) witnessed some vehicles braving through the floods at the airport, whilst others had their vehicles stuck.
Other drivers stopped their engines and would not dare the floods but the police and some individuals assisted them to drive to safety.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tetteh Portuphy, Senior Meteorologist at the Ghana Meteorological Agency, Kotoka International Airport, told the GNA in an interview that the Southern part of the country is presently experiencing the peak of the rainy season.
He said Thursday’s morning’s rain-fall was particularly heavy, and was estimated at 100 millimetres.
Mr Portuphy cautioned that southern Ghana would experience such heavy rains a few more times before the end of the rainy season.
He said southern Ghana is currently experiencing its major rainy season which is expected to taper off to the end of June.
“We expect only light showers in July, when the season would finally get slow to an end,” he said.
