Dzakpasu appointed Head of EC’s Communications
The Electoral Commission (EC), has appointed Mr Eric Kofi Dzakpasu as its new Head of Communications.
A statement signed by Georgina Opoku Amankwaa, EC Deputy Chair for Corporate Services and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday said as Head of the Department, Mr Dzakpasu would oversee the implementation of the Commission’s overall communications strategy.
He would be responsible for strengthening the EC’s relationships with the media and key stakeholders in the electoral process and public relations.
He would intensify its publicity and voter education on electoral processes and issues, deepening internal stakeholder engagement, as well as managing the Commission’s online and social media presence.
The statement said under his leadership, the new Communications Department is expected to develop and deploy innovative communication tools, channels, and processes, aimed at making the Commission more responsive to the information needs of the public while serving the people of Ghana better.
It said Mr Dzakpasu emerged as the top candidate for the role after a highly competitive and thorough internal recruitment process.
He brings substantial field operational experience and sound knowledge of electoral laws and processes to the role, having served the Commission for a total of 20 years.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with Political Science from the University of Ghana, Legon and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration.
Mr Dzakpasu succeeds Mr Christian Owusu-Parry who was recently promoted to the position of a substantive Director in charge of Administration.
He would be assisted by Mr Yussif A. Ayuba. Mr Ayuba has also worked with the Commission for seven years in various operational roles.
He holds a Master of Arts degree in Public Affairs and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with Political Science from the University of Ghana, Legon.
