MTN to enroll 70 per cent subscribers onto 4G network

The MTN Ghana, a telecommunication company, has planned to enroll 70 per cent of more than 15 million subscribers onto the 4GLTE (Long Term Evolution) Network before the end of the year.

The Company has spent 97 million dollars on upgrading its infrastructure before rolling out the 4G network, which would increase three times faster the speed of uploading and downloading data on the Internet as well as ensuring quality voice delivery.

Mr Simon Amoh, a Senior Regional Manager in-charge of South West Business District of the Company, told the media at the launch of the 4G Network, in Takoradi, on Tuesday.

He said since MTN secured a license from the National Communications Authority last year to operate the 4G network, it had established 48 cell sites in 17 out of 22 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the Western Region.

He indicated that subscribers with 4G compatible mobile phones could change their SIM cards at any MTN service centre across the country free of charge, in order to use the platform for consistent and stable connectivity.

Mr Amoh added that mobile phone users using other telecommunication networks could be ported onto the 4G network as well.

He expressed appreciation to the Company’s subscribers for their loyalty and support over the years, saying: “Communication drives everything we are doing as individuals and institutions therefore the network will enhance business transactions and facilitate socio-economic development.”
