Andre Ayew pleads with media to help team regain support
The Deputy Captain for the Senior National Team, the Black Stars, Andre Ayew has pleaded with the media to help the Black Stars to regain the love for the team.
Ayew who won the 41st MTN-SWAG Sports Personality and Footballer of the Year at the just ended SWAG Awards, made the passionate appeal when interacting with the press after he was officially introduced to the title sponsors of the glamorous event at the MTN head office in Accra.
Ayew noted with concern the way fans have turned their back to the national team over incidents in Brazil and issues related to bonuses of the team.
“The media should pardon the team for any wrong doings and help regain the love and passion from Ghanaians, not only for the Black Stars but to all the national teams. We cannot achieve anything without the support from the fans who love this beautiful game, he noted.
Ayew, also commended the media for their contribution to the development of football in Ghana saying “the media has done a wonderful job by hyping the local league, I have been watching the games via Internet when am out there. Fans troop in to the stadia in their numbers and it is very positive for the growth of clubs.”
“The incident in Brazil and anything concerning bonuses should be put behind us, so we could fight for a coming goal, thus, winning the next AFCON. We have had one of the difficult qualifiers to AFCON due to the lack of support, when we went to play outside, the stadia were filled, and we need same here to bring out the best in us” he added.
