Miner convicted for stealing gold
Godfred Braimah, a miner, has been fined GH¢ 4,800.00 for stealing gold by a Tarkwa Circuit court.
He pleaded guilty to unlawful entry, causing damage and stealing.
Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court, presided over by Mr. Justice Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew, that the complainant, Adams Raman is a gold buyer at Aboso in the Prestea/Huni Valley District, and lives in the same vicinity with the convict.
He said on June 7, the convict entered the complainant’s house through the ceiling and stole his gold melting pot containing gold worth GH¢4,700.00.
According to the prosecutor, when the convict was descending from the roof, Adu Gyamfi, a witness in the case, saw him and questioned him about his presence there but the convict insisted that it was the complainant who had asked him to repair his faulty bulb.
However, the complainant returned home around 2130 hours and detected that his room had been ransacked, and a neighbour informed him the convict was seen descending from his roof-top earlier in the day.
The complainant therefore reported the matter to the Police and Godfred was apprehended and after investigations charged with the offences.
