Ban telenovelas during prime time periods – Educationist
Mr Samuel Arhin, Agona East District Director of Education, has called on the Ministry of Communications and National Media Commission (NMC) to ban on the airing of popular telenovelas during prime time periods.
He said programmes such as ‘Kukuum Bhagyha’ could be moved to late evening when many school children are asleep as it was doing more harm than good to the studies of children.
Mr Arhin, who made this known when he addressed the Speech and Prize Giving Day and 46th Anniversary Celebration of Swedru International School, cautioned parents and guardians against watching adult movies with their children.
He said the situation is seriously affecting children, adding that it is not good for school children to abandon their books to watch movies.
He said majority of school children spent most of their time to watching movies and failed to do their home work adding that parents should rather encourage their children to study.
He also cautioned parents not to purchase mobile phones for their school children because it disturbs their studies.
Mr Kwesi Ocran, Parent Teacher Association PTA) Chairman commended the management, teachers and non–teaching staff for their effective and efficient running of the school.
He urged the teachers and management to do well to raise the academic standards of the pupils and students to enhance effective teaching and learning.
The PTA Chairman commended the management of the school for the construction of Speed rumps along the main Agona Swedru /Awutu Bawjiase road which has reduced accidents
Mr Kwadwo Osei-Bonsu, CO-Proprietor of the School, paid growing tribute to founding fathers of Swedru International School (SWIS).
He said the school was the first preparatory school established in Agona West and East Districts in 1970 and has won Presidential awards at the Basic School level in 1996/7, 1998/99 and 2003/ 2004 academic years.
