Ghana Shippers’ Authority urges strong support for Single Window project

The Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) has called for strong stakeholders support for the “Single Window” deployment to reduce the cost of doing business in the country.

The implementation of the system, it said, would tremendously help to simplify procedures, enhance the clearance of goods and bring about transparency and integrity.

Mr. Emmanuel Kwarteng, acting Kumasi Branch Manager of the GSA, said it would additionally improve accountability and business competitiveness of the nation.

He was speaking at a day’s workshop to discuss the implementation of Ghana’s Single Window (GSW) platform held for stakeholders in Kumasi.

Jointly organized by the GSA and the West Blue Consulting, the goal was to deepen the understanding of the participants of the system for data management of international trade.

Mr. Kwarteng said the GSW was a secured trade platform that would facilitate the exchange of information between the government and the logistics community.

He said it would serve as a one-stop shop for all trade information exchange and clearance processes.

Its high point was that data would not need to be entered multiple times, instead it could be exchanged and re-used electronically, achieving faster, more accurate results and ensure compliance with the necessary requirements, he added.

He said the Authority had put in place a number of systems to build capacity and give real time support to shippers across the ports and boarders of the country.

Mr. Joseph Amoah, Chairman of the Kumasi Shippers Committee, said the workshop could not have come at a better time, pointing out that, “there really is nothing so frustrating to importers and exporters of goods than when they have to loiter in the offices and corridors collecting data and documents for clearance and forwarding of goods at the ports of Ghana”.
