EC organises workshop for exhibition officials

Alhaji Amadu Sulley, the Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission in charge of operations, has said there is the need for all to keep abreast with their civic duties to ensure a credible, free and fair elections.

He has also advised all staff of the Commission and the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) especially district directors to be conversant with electoral laws as they interact with the public.

Alhaji Sulley made the call in Tamale during a day’s capacity building workshop for district electoral officers and district directors of the NCCE on the impending exhibition of the provisional register slated for July 18 to August 7, 2016.

The European Union (EU) funded the workshop was aimed at building the capacity of the EC and NCCE directors at the district level, on the procedures to enable them resolve challenges during the exhibition exercise.

Alhaji Sulley said the Commission would display the provisional register, which would involve the use of the Biometric Verification Device at all centres to verify applicants.

He called on registered voters to visit designated polling stations and check their particulars to ensure that they are not disenfranchised.

Alhaji Sulley said a person is not entitled to make a claim or raise an objection in relation to a matter on which the court has made a determination before the period of the exhibition of the provisional voters register.

Mr Eric Dzakpasu, Head of Communications at the EC, said the exhibition exercise was important and that the officer in charge has the responsibility to ensure orderliness and proper conduct during the process.

Mr Bruce Ayisi, the Northern Regional Director of the EC, said the Commission would work with all stakeholders to ensure the successful conclusion of the exercise.
