Non gazetted chiefs cannot sit on trial cases – President
Dasebre Kweibu Ewusi VII, the President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, says chiefs who are not gazetted have no power to sit in trial cases of other chiefs.
He said chiefs who had not been gazetted were not recognised by the Government, Regional and National Houses of Chiefs.
Dasebre Kweibu Ewusi made this known when he addressed a three-day training workshop organised by the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Council for chiefs, queen mothers and head of families at Agona Swedru.
It was on the theme: “The Chieftaincy Institution; The Role of Traditional Authorities.”
Dasebra Ewusi said the outcome of a case ruled by non gazetted chiefs could be nullified by any law court of the country.
He urged the chiefs who had not been gazetted to speed up the process to enable them to be recognised as full traditional rulers.
On the 2016 election, Dasebre Ewusi, also the Omanhene of Abeadze Dominase in Mfantseman, said chiefs had a vital role to play as traditional authorities to ensure peace and tranquility.
He called on them to advice the youth to desist from alcoholism, drug abuse and other vices that could create mayhem before, during and after the election.
He commended the Omanhene of Nyakrom Traditional Council, Okofo Katakyi Nyakoh Eku X, and the planning committee for organising the workshop for the chiefs, queen mothers and heads of families the Agona West and East districts.
Okofo Nyakoh Eku expressed the hope that the knowledge gained would help them know their respective roles to avoid land and chieftaincy disputes.
He said the workshop would not be a nine-day wonder but must be a permanent feature to assist in updating the knowledge of the traditional rulers to promote peace and development.
Nana Dr Ampim Darko V, the Kwanyakohene and Kyidomhene of Nyakrom Traditional Area, who chaired the function, said the workshop would eliminate bad relations between chiefs and their heads of families.
He called on corporate bodies, financial institutions, companies and the well to-do in Agona and non citizens to assist the Traditional Council to organise more of such workshops.
