UBA Ghana appoints Soni Anwal Deputy MD

Mrs Abiola Bawuah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Ghana, has announced the appointment of Mr Soni Anwal as the Deputy Managing Director of the bank.

A statement signed by Ms Katherine Woode, the Head of Marketing and Communication, UBA Ghana, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said Mr Anwal came with over 20 years of banking experience and had spent the latter years of this experience in retail banking and marketing.

It said prior to his accreditation from Bank of Ghana and subsequent appointment as Deputy Managing Director, Mr Anwal was the Regional Bank Head for United Bank for Africa Plc in Lagos, Nigeria.

The statement said from 2001 to 2009, he was the Managing Director UBA Sierra Leone, where he provided leadership for the day to day running of the bank.

He has worked in various capacities in Nigeria’s financial services industry where he acquired strong management, leadership and marketing skills to meet set objectives.

The statement said Mr Anwal obtained an MSC Degree in Economics from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology Business School in Nigeria.

It quoted Mrs Bawuah as saying: “I am very pleased to introduce Soni as the next Deputy Managing Director of UBA Ghana. Soni comes at a time which brings new promise to our bank as we forge ahead to take banking to a superior credit risk analysis and governance level never before seen.

“He has a strong combination of retail banking, business strategy, credit risk analysis and relationship management, his extensively deepened experience with commercial, agricultural, consumer, construction and financial institutions, his excellent communication and negotiating skills as well as a good knowledge of banking policies and procedures makes him just the right support I need to make UBA the tried and trusted bank that we are.

“Indeed, he is very well known and highly respected here in Ghana having served as Regional Director for Nigeria for many years’’.

United Bank for Africa (Ghana) pioneered the entry of a new generation of foreign banks into the country in January 2005.

The presence of UBA in the banking industry in Ghana over the last 10 years has galvanised banking onto a higher performance level; where competition and innovation in responding to the needs of the customer have become the driving force of the industry.
