EC begins receiving applications for proxy voting
The Electoral Commission (EC) has begun receiving application for proxy voting from registered voters.
A statement signed by Mr Eric Dzakpasu, the Head of Communications of the EC and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday, said from Wednesday, August 17 toMonday, September 26, the Commission would be accepting applications for proxy voting.
“A registered voter who wishes to apply for voting by proxy is required to visit the Commission’s Head Office or the District Office of the Commission in his/her Constituencynot later than 26th September, together with his or appointed proxy to be processed,” it said.
“Alternatively, the appointed proxy may pick the proxy forms on behalf of the applicant to be completed and returned to the Commission’s district office before the specified deadline of 26th September,” it added.
The statement said in order to qualify to vote by proxy, the applicant must be a registered voter, who due to ill-health or absence from his/her constituency, would be unable to vote on Election Day.
The appointed proxy must be a registered voter.
The one voting by proxy shall not appoint more than one person at the same time as a proxy.
