Unfavourable weather pattern threatening food security – Vinyo

Bad weatherThe unfavourable weather pattern being experienced in the country nowadays is a serious threat to national food security in 2017, said Mr Kofi Vinyo, the Managing Director of Kofi Vinyo and Company Limited, a Sunyani-based agri-business entity.

He said cassava, plantain, maize, cocoyam and like-other food stuffs cultivated this year were not doing well because of the unpredictable and unfavourable climatic condition.

Mr Vinyo said this when he presented 50 bags of maize to the Brong-Ahafo Regional Hospital on Tuesday in Sunyani.

He called on the government to facilitate the construction of small dams and irrigation facilities to make agriculture more attractive to the youth.

Mr Vinyo said commercial farming is a lucrative business and had several economic potentials and benefits for a developing nation, but expressed regret that many of the youth were not interested in farming.

He said the interest of the youth in agriculture was low because the sector was unattractive and regarded as a preserve for the poor, common and the marginalised in the society.

Mr Abraham Bediako, the Hospital Administrator, thanked the donor for the gesture and appealed to Brong-Ahafo citizens abroad to assist in addressing the basic challenges of the Hospital.

He said the Hospital needed modern medical devices and equipment as management was working tirelessly to make it rank among the best health facilities in the country.
