GIFEC supports Birth and Death registry

The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), on Tuesday presented Information, Communication and Technology equipment to various institutions to help enhance their performance.

The beneficiaries are the Birth and Death Registry in Accra, which received 100 desktop computers, 20 laptops, six scanners, 10 severs, 10 printers and 10 air-conditioners.

Also, 46 Community Information Centres (CIC) in various regions were provided with 160 desktops, 25 printers, 16 scanners and 34 projectors.

Mr Kwabena Owusu Akyeampong, the Administrator GIFEC, presenting the items said the donation formed part of the organisation’s core business of helping to bridge the digital divide between the served and underserved in the society.

He said the items being donated were worth more than GH¢1.174 million and were aimed to support and enhance the operations and activities of the recipients in the country’s development.

He said the gesture was important because these institutions need the support of the Fund in terms of ICT equipment to function properly as an entity.

He expressed the hope that the Fund would see improvement in their operations with the acquisition of these items.

Mr John Yao Agbeko, the Registrar, Birth and Death Registry, told the GNA that the items would help them improve on their service delivery to the people of Ghana.

He said with the presentation of the ICT equipment the registry would expand its operations in the districts.

Alhaji Abdul Latef Majdoub, Adansi North District Chief Executive, who received the items on behalf of the CIC expressed gratitude to management of GIFEC for the equipment, saying it would be used to improve productivity.
