Hearts-Kotoko settle for UN Peace Cup rematch in Kumasi

FootballThe two most decorated clubs in Ghana, Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko will be locking horns with each other for the fifth time, as they are scheduled to play a rematch of the United Nations Peace Cup in Kumasi.

Both sides settled for rematch after a pulsating 2-2 draw in the first game played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

The home side took the lead in the 38th minute when Isaac Mensah was fouled in the box by Richard Osei Agyemang and the resulting penalty beautifully converted by Vincent Atingah.

Kotoko were however presented with an equal opportunity to restore parity on the stroke of half time but skipper Amos Frimpong shot feebly into the waiting arms of Evans Gbeti.

The second half started with Kotoko dominating and the more hungrier side as they probed for the equalizer.       Burkinabe import Halipha Sedego through a sublime curler leveled for his side minutes after his introduction unto the pitch.

Kotoko’s dominance in the second half continued as they forced the Phobians into a defensive shape and with their persistence in attack shot themselves into the lead through Amos Frimpong who had earlier missed a penalty.

Meanwhile as their motto suggest, the ‘never say die‘ boys fought back proudly through a Mustapha  Essuman’s 30 yards stunning shot into the bottom right corner of Felix Annan’s goal post.

Organisers of the match who had earlier fixed for penalty shoot-outs in the event of a drawn match changed their programs to re-fix the game for a later date upon consultations with executives of both clubs.

The new date for the game is yet-to-be decided though but the venue has been confirmed to be at the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Inusah Musah received $1,000 as prize for being adjudged the best player for the game whilst Emmanuel; Gyamfi also received equal amount of cash prize for being adjudged fair play player.
