NGOs support agriculture in Brong-Ahafo Region

Care Gulf Agriculture and Natural Resources (CGGANR) in collaboration with the Tamale office of Care International and Abrono Organic Farming Project (ABOFAP) are embarking on Local Extension Services for Agricultural Development (LEAD) in the country.

Nana Kwaw Adams, Twafohene of Forikrom and Executive Director of ABOFAP said this when briefing the Chief Executive of Techiman Mr. Alex Kyeremeh, about the programme in the municipality.

He said the programme was an integral part of Care Ghana’s agricultural and natural resources portfolio being implemented in four districts in four regions of the country.

Nana Adams named Techiman in Brong-Ahafo, Lawra in Upper-West, Garu in Upper East and Langbunshie in the Northern as implementing regions.

He explained that the objective of LEAD was to help sustain and equip Community Based Extension (CBES) being implemented in 100 communities in the four regions by 2014.

Nana Adams said by 2014 about 25 communities would benefit from the programmes and by 2012, 13 communities in the Techiman municipality would be covered.

He said ABOFAP within the stipulated period would facilitate selected communities and stakeholders to draw community action plans to feed into the Municipal Medium Term Development Plan (MMTDP) for good governance and democracy.

Nana Adams said the programme would not only be targeting food security but also climate change, conflict management and gender.

Mr. Kyeremeh commended both NGOs for selecting Techiman to benefit from the programme and expressed the hope that as an agriculture area, it would enhance the living conditions of the people especially farmers.
