Rwanda tops EAC troops contributions to UN peacekeeping
Rwanda is the biggest contributor of military, police and other specialists in the East African Community (EAC), to UN Peacekeeping operations around the world as at the end of 2016, according to a UN report.
Rwanda deployed a total number of 6,146 personnel for peacekeeping operations, comprising 978 from the police, 32 to the United Nations Military Experts on Mission (UNMEM) and 5,136 troops.
The Republic of Tanzania provides the second largest, a total of 2, 341 personnel, 79 from the police, 18 UNMEM and 2,244 troops.
Kenya is third, with a contribution of 1,229 personnel in total. There are 27 police, 37 to the UNMEM and 1,165 troops.
The Republic of Burundi provided a total of 941 personnel: 97 from the police, 15 for UNMEM and 829 troops.
The Republic of Uganda’s contribution comprises 30 police, three UNMEM and 533 troops making a total of 566.
The EAC provided a total of 11,223 personnel for UN Peacekeeping operations for the period under review.
