Ghana government will provide enabling environment for investors – Minister
Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Eastern Regional Minster, on Monday assured investors of government’s commitment to provide an enabling environment to promote investment, especially in the tourism sector.
He said the President appreciated that his campaign pledge of a better Ghana could only be realized when every Ghanaian had gainful employment and a meaningful livelihood.
This, he observed, could be achieved through job creation, and that since government could not do it alone, it would provide the necessary support for investors to generate revenue and create jobs.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said this when a team from Turkey and Nigeria to explore investment opportunities in the region paid a courtesy call on him at Koforidua.
The team, with an engineering background, was led by Mr David Lamptey, a former Member of Parliament now with the Office of the President.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo mentioned the Boti, Akaa, Asenema and Tini water falls and the Akosombo Hydro-power station as areas where they could invest in.
He said the Boti-Falls, which could generate a revenue of about GH¢10,000 on peak days, lacked so many amenities such as electricity and toilet facilities and that providing such amenities would enhance tourism.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo pointed out that with the proximity of the region to Accra, it was positioning itself to become the next investment destination after the national capital by improving its road networks, water and power supply.
Mr Folu Olusonya, leader of the team, said their attention would be focused on the Boti-Falls due to its fame and gave the assurance that that many employment opportunities would be created for the local people.
He thanked the Minister for the warm reception and said the gesture showed his preparedness to open up the region for investments.
Mr David Lamptey commended Mr Ofosu-Ampofo for his in-depth knowledge of tourism and urged him to ensure that land ownership in the area did not disturb investors.
