UCC College of Distance Education to introduce M.Phil in IT Education
The University of Cape Coast (UCC), will from October this year introduce MPhil in IT Education and M.Com programmes into its distance learning education programme.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ghartey Ampiah announced this at the fifth session of the 49th congregation of UCC during which 10,241 students graduated through the Distance Education Programme for the 2015/2016 academic year.
The students were awarded Degrees and Diplomas in Basic Education, Commerce and Business Management and Psychology and Foundations of Education.
Prof. Ghartey Ampiah said Diploma in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) would also be introduced as mechanisms were put in place to facilitate education delivery through the use of ICT.
He said the activation of the e-learning platform for the College of Distance Education (CoDE) exhibited the University’s commitment to integrate ICT in distance learning.
The Vice Chancellor cautioned that the University would not compromise on standards and will therefore continue with its frequent assessments of both students and tutors to attain its vision of improving on standards.
In this regard, he said, UCC has rolled out series of training programmes for course tutors to make them more accustomed to modern ways of meeting the increasing needs of the matured group of students offering distance education.
Prof Ghartey Ampiah said six new centres were opened last year in line with the University’s aim of making university education accessible to workers and expressed the hope to open more centres in the ensuing years.
He, therefore, charged the graduands to persevere, guard against any form of complacency, and work hard to contribute their quota to the improvement and growth of the country.
In his valedictory address, the overall best student in the graduating year,, Mr. Prince Duah Agyemang, admonished his colleagues to be focused, committed and make the training acquired reflect in all their endeavours.
Mr Duah Agyemang had three point nine (3.9) of the total four point zero (4.0) Grade Point Average (GPA) to clinch the overall best student position.
