Fire officer advises on fire safety measures
Mr Kingsley Yeboah, Effutu Municipal Fire Officer has announced that Effutu Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Fire Service attended to 78 emergency cases between January and December 2016 as against 95 in the same period in 2015.
According to him, bush fires reduced from 18 in 2015 to 17 in 2016 while Institutional fires also reduced from three to two in 2016 with vehicular fires increasing from three in 2015 to seven in 2016.
He stated that, they recorded 14 Domestic Fire outbreaks as compared to 25 in 2015, while electrical fires also reduced from nine in 2015 to two in 2016.
Mr Yeboah, who was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency urged people in Winneba and its surrounding villages to strictly follow fundamental practices on fire safety management to avoid disasters
He said that, it is worrying that, public concern continued to be expressed about the upsurge of fire outbreaks in the society culminating into loses of precious lives and property.
He said although the service was doing its best to stop the hazards, poor human attitude and lack of loyalty on the part of some of the inhabitants was making it problematic for them to attain their goal.
“We are confident and committed in the execution of our core mandate especially to intensify our sensitisation programmes in respect of fire safety measures in order that people will refrain from indulging in negative attitudes that contribute to outbreaks of fire”.
It was about time for us as people, to adhere to fire safety regulation and rules to help prevent occurrence of artificial fire outbreaks in the society, Mr. Yeboah added.
Mr Yeboah attributed the reduction in emergency cases in the area to adherence of sensitisation messages they held for them and expressed the hope that people would continue in that direction.
He said during the year under review, two Gas-related fires were recorded against two in the same period in 2015, two False alarms against three in 2015.
Mr Yeboah commended Managements of Radio Peace and Wendy-Bay F.M for given them air time to propagate safety messages and appealed to people in and around Winneba to regularly listen to the education programmes to curb fire disasters.
