No new CEO for GOIL yet – Presidency

The Office of the President has stated that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has not appointed a new Chief Executive Officer for the Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) contrary to reports in the media.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by Acting Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin, to react to an accusation by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of GOIL, Professor William Asumaning that President Akufo-Addo had breached procedures for appointing a new CEO for the Company.

He had said that the GOIL was a public listed company on the Ghana Stock Exchange with its own regulations, which made it impossible for the President to appoint a CEO without observing the necessary procedures.

Media reports on February 24, titled: “Nana Addo Picks New Heads for Forestry Commission, Ghana Health Service and GOIL”.

But the Presidency said that in the interest of best practices, Prof Asumaning should have hinged the issuance of such statement on concrete evidence, “in the form of appointment letters, and not mere speculation and conjecture by an online publication”.

The Presidency said the statement by the Board Chair “was unfortunate and completely needless, to say the least”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I wish to state that the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has not appointed a new CEO of GOIL, and when he decides to do so, it would be done in accordance with laid down procedures,” the statement said.
