Spain committed to military cooperation with Ghana – Ambassador

Madam Maria Alonso, the Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, says the government of Spain is committed to promoting Military cooperation with Ghana. 

She said it would be a good idea to send some officials of the Ministry of Defence to Spain to build their capacity in Military intelligence and other areas related to defence.

Madam Alonso was speaking during a courtesy call on the Minister for Defence, Mr Dominic Nitiwul at the Military Square in Accra.

She said Military cooperation with West African countries, especially Ghana was very important to the government of Spain.

The Ambassador commended Ghana for its peace-keeping operations in support of the conflicts resolution in the sub-region.

“We are going to keep the cooperation for a long time, now that there is a new government and a new Minister,” she added.

She said Spain was opened up for any engagement and suggestions to enhance mutual cooperation and understanding between the two countries.

On his part, Mr Nitiwul said Spain was one of the important partners in terms of trade and commerce and Military support.

He said the government of Ghana had signed many bilateral agreements with Spain to strengthen its ties, expressing the hope that there would be more opportunities to enhance this cooperation.

“The relationship between the two countries in the area of defence should continue to grow from strength to strength,” he added.

The Minister called for more capacity building opportunities for personnel of the Military to equip them with skills and knowledge to improve the sector.

He expressed the hope that there would be an engagement in the area of government to government support in the construction of hospitals and housing for the Military and expressed the hope that the picture would change.
