GAMA demonstrates Toilet at Half Price concept at May Day rally
The Greater Accra Metropolitan Area-Sanitation and Water Project (GAMA-SWP) has demonstrated its new toilet at half price concept at the May Day rally in Accra.
This was to spread and strengthen the awareness creation being undertaken by GAMA-SWP.
The GAMA-SWP is undertaking the provision of improved water supply institutional and household toilet at half price in the 11 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the Greater Accra.
It is under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and sponsored by the World Bank with a grant of $150 million dollars.
Mr Quaranchie Adama Tettey, the Head of Behavioural Change and Communication Specialist at the Local Government Ministry in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the Black Star Square said the objective of GAMA-SWP was to improve water supply and sanitation to prevent diseases in low income communities.
He said the demonstration of the new toilet at the rally was timely since most of the workers stayed in low income areas in the Greater Accra and encouraged them to embrace the “Get a Decent Toilet at Half Price Concept.”
Mr Tettey said the project sought to facilitate the construction of 19,000 toilet facilities in schools and households to improve environmental conditions in the region.
Mr Henry Harding, an Actor and popularly known as “Papa Nii” urged the workers to patronise the half price toilet because it would help improve sanitation in their homes.
