49 Ghanaians deported from Malta?
News form the island of Malta says a group of 49 Ghanaian migrants was deported to Ghana Tuesday August 11, 2009.
According to the reports, travel documents for the deportees were provided by the government of Ghana.
The reports also added that the migrants were flown back to Accra on a chartered Air Malta flight, with security officers outnumbering the migrants two to one, and the flight was paid for by the EU in terms of the Immigration Pact.
But ghanabusinessnews.com checks at the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) drew a blank. Officials of the Public Affairs Department of the GIS are unaware of the incident. An official told ghanabusinessnews.com that they do not know about any such repatriation, and promised to find out. Later calls made to the GIS, however, were not answered.
