Prampram chief against reckless sale of lands

Nene Tetteh Djan, Paramount Chief of Prampram, on Tuesday called on chiefs and family heads in the area, not to sell traditional lands indiscriminately since it could be detrimental to the well-being of posterity.
   
“Lands according to our elders are property that belong to the dead, the living and the generation yet to be born, therefore it should be used judiciously and handed to subsequent generation,” Nene Djan said.  
   
The Paramount Chief was speaking at this year’s Homowo festival at Prampram at the Dangbe West District of the Greater Accra Region.
   
The festival is aimed at hooting at hunger as well as thanking the gods for their protection and successful agricultural productive year.
    
The kpoikpoi were sprinkled at the residence of the three royal families, Tetteh Djan We, Kwei Opletu We, Okumanso We, the ancestral home and the Prampram Traditional Council. 
    
Nene Djan said if lands were sold because of personal gains, there would not be lands available for developmental project like schools, hospitals, and recreational activities in future.
    
“I urge all family leaders not to deny the younger generation access to family property,” he said.
    
He expressed concern about the activities of land guards in the area and called for the halt of such activities.
    
Nene Djan called on government to establish a Senior High School in the area to help pupils who complete their Junior High education to climb the academic ladder.
    
He reiterated the need for parents to make child education a priority since it was the most valuable gift they could give to their wards in life.
    
He said education was one of the major tools that promote the development of the child’s intellect, mental faculty and behaviour pattern.
