Kofi Boakye back into Police Service
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kofi Boakye has been reinstated into the Ghana Police Service with full benefits after serving nearly three years of interdiction.
A Joy News report monitored by ghanabusinessnews.com Tuesday January 6, 2009 says the reinstatement takes immediate effect, one day before President J. A. Kufuor leaves office and hands over power to President-elect, Prof. J. E. A. Mills.
Mr. Kofi Boakye who was the police Director of Operations was interdicted in 2006 on the recommendations of the Georgina Wood Committee which was set up to investigate the loss of 77 parcels of cocaine on board a vessel, MV Benjamin.
Mr. Boakye was arrested following his meeting with some civilians in his house over what was said to be about the cocaine kept on the MV Benjamin. Someone at the meeting recorded the meeting on tape.
According to Mr. Frank Agyekum, Deputy Minister of Information who spoke to Joy News , the state has no interest in pursuing the case, describing the act as part of Kufuor’s ‘landmark decisions’ before he leaves office.
The MV Benjamin case came up when on February 6, 2006 crew of the vessel and other persons were arrested for importing 77 parcels each of 30 kg of cocaine into the country without license.
While on interdiction, however, Mr. Boakye enrolled at the Ghana Law School where he graduated in October 2008 with excellence and was called to the Ghana Bar. He was adjudged the Overall Best Student.
