KMA takes steps to strengthen revenue collection performance

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has taken steps to improve its revenue collection performance as it builds reliable data on all businesses across the metropolis.

The activity is being carried out by its Revenue Enhancement Team, headed by Dr. Kojo Yeboah.

It would aid the assembly to properly plan and make realistic revenue projections in its budget preparation.

A document on the KMA’s development projects made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said all stores, warehouses, kiosks, canopies and umbrellas would be captured in its database.

It said the exercise had already started in the Subin, Nhyiaeso and Bantama sub-metropolitan areas.

In Subin, data had so far been collected on 9,000 businesses and 3,000 each for Nhyiaeso and Bantama.

According to the document, 59 building permit applications out of the 128 received, since the beginning of the year, had been processed by the assembly.

It underlined the KMA’s resolve to clamp down on illegal erection of billboards to restore sanity.

In line with this, a Billboards and Outdoor Advertising Technical Committee has been set up.

About 128 billboards in the metropolis currently were put up without the necessary permit, and the Committee, would handle that.
