Police mount full-scale hunt for MP attackers

The Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Command has launched full-scale manhunt to catch and bring to justice the criminal gang that reportedly raided the Sankore property of the Member of Parliament (MP) Asunafo South, Mr. Eric Opoku.

They fired gunshots into the walls, sliding doors and windows and smashed the side glass of three vehicles – Toyota V8 Land Cruiser, Kia Spectra and VW Passat, which they found parked in the house.

This happened on Easter (Sunday, April 01) at about 0200 hours.

Police Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the Regional Public Relations Officer, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), that four empty bullet shells were retrieved from the place by investigators.

The group also violently attacked and inflicted deep multiple cuts on three other persons – Adams Sulley, alias ‘Red”, Thomas Amponsah and Apostle Timothy.

Sulley in addition to the cutlass wounds suffered, claims to have had his cash of GH¢10,400.00, flat screen television and decoder, stolen.

Chief Inspector Oppong said the three were sent to the Star of Hope Hospital in the town, where they were treated and discharged.

He gave the assurance that everything would be done to arrest those behind the crime.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kwame Tachie-Poku, the Regional Commander, and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seidu Salifu Haruna, the Regional Operations Commander, had already visited the town to assess things for them-selves.

Chief Inspector Oppong spoke of the scale-up of day and night police patrols to assure the people of adequate security protection.

He called for the cooperation and support of everybody by way of credible information, which would lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of the offenders.
