Seven perish on Tarkwa-Bogoso road

Seven people were killed in a motor accident between Afamasi and Akotom on the Tarkwa Bogoso Road in the Western Region.

An Opel Space Wagon vehicle with registration number AS 6512-16 transporting passengers from Tarkwa to Bogoso and a Toyota Corolla with registration number AS 2081-18 from the opposite direction collided in a sharp curve between the two towns in the Prestea Huni/Valley Constituency.

Five people reportedly died on the spot and the remaining two passed away at the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital.

The Divisional Police Commander for Tarkwa Nsueam, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Edmound Ohene Bosompim who confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency, said it happened on April 15 at 1330 hours.

He said one Bridget Obiri Yeboah, 25 years, was the only person who survived.

ACP Bosompim said Bridget has since been referred to the Cape Coast Government Hospital to undergo further treatment.

The Divisional Commander said out of the five males and two females who perished in the accident five have been identified.

The deceased which included drivers of both vehicles are Ernest Eshun, 29, James Seidu, 27, Daniel Appiah Frimpong, 57, Theophilus Otoo, 51 and Asare Barbinton Coffie, 51.

The bodies have been deposited at the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital morgue for autopsy.

ACP Bosompim who praised the people of Afamasi and Akotom said they ensured that nothing was stolen from the victims when the accident happened and added that they also assisted the police at the scene.

He cautioned drivers to be extra patient and vigilant on the road to avoid such accidents from occurring.
