Military to adequately deal with any security threat – Bawumia
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has underlined the government’s unwavering resolve to adequately equip the military to swiftly neutralize and security threat.
He said they would go to every length to enhance the operational efficiency of the country’s armed forces.
This was important against the background of the illicit arms trafficking in the sub-region and acts of terrorism.
The Vice President was addressing the Special Medical Intake Four Parade held at the Military Academy, in Accra.
One hundred and fifty-eight (158) cadets, 97 non-commissioned officers and two officers were commissioned into the Medical Corps of the Ghana Armed Forces after three months intensive military training.
They were made of medical doctors, specialist doctors, nurses, dieticians and administrators.
Vice President Bawumia urged them to serve their nation with humility, discipline, integrity respect for authority.
They should maintain high standards of professionalism, he said, adding “your predecessors have paved the way with high standards which you are under obligation to maintain and improve upon it”.
He reminded everybody that the complex global security situation demanded that the military and other security agencies together with non-state actors built synergies and played complementary roles to ensure the safety and wellbeing of humanity.
“Let us all remain vigilant in our respective communities and promptly report suspicious acts to the appropriate security agencies for remedial actions.”
Vice President Bawumia said the government was not unaware of the acute accommodation challenge facing the soldiers and gave the assurance that steps had been taken to deal with the situation.
Work had already started on the ‘barracks regeneration projects’ and the momentum would be sustained so that all service personnel and their families would be properly housed.
Cadet Sergeant Alexander Solomon Essuman was adjudged the Overall Best Cadet for the 2018 Special Medical Intake Four.
The Ghana Military Academy was established on April 1, 1960 and has since trained over 3,500 Ghanaian and foreign officers.
