Mixed reactions greet Nyantakyi saga in Volta Region

Football fans in Ho, Volta Regional capital have expressed mixed feelings to the alleged “acts of bribery and influence peddling” by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi and his invitation by the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, according to a Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor, reported the FA President to the Police CID after watching excerpts of an investigative piece by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, in which Mr Nyantakyi allegedly used the President’s name to solicit monies from prospective investors.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Isaac Tsintor, a mobile phone dealer said if the GFA President was found culpable of the charges after investigations, he should be dealt with accordingly and that other allegations about the manner in which the GFA Boss was running the Association should also be looked into by the CID.

Mr. Osei Boakye, a footballer said he was waiting to watch the alleged video implicating the FA boss before making any comments on the matter but prayed that no one would be shield after investigations.

Some members of the Regional Football Association said they reserved comments on the issue since investigations were still ongoing to uncover the truth of the matter.

Madam Grace Segbefia, a Dealer in sportswear said Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi should step down as GFA boss or step aside whiles investigations continued.

Mr. Francis Frimpong, a Student said the current case affirmed previous allegations leveled against him by some people in the sports fraternity and called for a probe into the dismissal of his Vice, Mr. George Afriyie, that it was time for the FA boss to step down after 13 years of service.

Mr. Eric Apedo, a Nurse, said the allegations gave meaning to the cry of Sulley Muntari and other players of the Black Stars, who claimed they were working and others were enjoying.

Meanwhile, Mr. Lambert Coffie, a National Service Person said it was too early to ask the FA Boss to resign and that the allegations against him had nothing to do with his administrative work as President of the FA.
