AMA to finish uncompleted school buildings

Mr Mohammed Adjei Sowah, the Chief Executive Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), on Monday said his outfit would complete all uncompleted school buildings within the Metropolis by the end of this year.

He said in addition to that, his office would complete nine out of the 14 uncompleted schools in the metropolis by the end of June.

Mr Sowah said this at the closing ceremony of a three-day celebration of the International Children’s Book Day (ICBD), organised by the Ghana Library Authority (GLA) to mark the world annual event in Ghana.

This year’s event, which was on the theme; “The Small is Big in a Book”, saw participants from some selected basic, primary and Junior High Schools within Accra, engaging in educational competitions with prizes for winners in many categories.

Mr Sowah said should the country develop to the height citizens and politicians desired it to, it would need investments into education and books specifically and he would rather start new projects of constructing school buildings, but the notion of starting a new project when there were many uncompleted ones, did not make sense economically.

“We cannot look on unconcerned as political leaders, whiles our kids, junior brothers and sisters learn in some structures that are dilapidated and life threatening. So I think that whatever project my predecessor started, I must complete them and do so on time”, he said.

He said the assembly would at least by the end of this year, transform all schools within Accra to modern facilities.

On libraries within the city, Mr Sowah said, “In most of the schools that I have visited, they already have libraries and science laboratories. What it means is that, we are going to have many libraries dotted across the city within the next couple of months”.
