Farmers urged to adopt modern agronomic practices

Mr Patrick Akowuah, Ejisu Municipal Director of Agriculture, has called on farmers to embrace modern agricultural practices to increase their yield and boost food production in the country.

They should also seek advice from extension officers and adopt the use of technology in their farming activities to improve on their productivity.

Mr Akowuah made the call at a Research Extension Farmer Linkage Committee (RELC) workshop at Ejisu.

It was organized by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to create the platform for both farmers and agricultural extension officers to discuss issues affecting farming and food production in the Municipality.

Mr Akowuah said adopting new technologies and modern agronomic practices is the only way to increase food production and ensure food security for the increasing population.

He urged the farmers to form Farmer Base Organizations (FBO) to enable access some of the facilities available to such groups and organizations, to aid their production.

Mr Mohammed Habib, the Municipal Coordinating Director, commended the municipal directorate of agriculture for the continuous support to farmers that had helped increase food production in the area.

He urged farmers to endeavor to put what they had learnt into practice to increase food production and improve on their incomes and living conditions.

Some poultry and livestock farmers expressed concern about the high cost of feed for their animals and urged the government to do something about that.

Others also appealed to the law enforcement agencies to arrest people who are selling fake agro-chemicals to farmers in rural communities.
