Businesswoman calls on Mills to re-appraise taxes on detergents
Madam Anita Kudaya, Managing Director of Dzidefo Enterprise, a detergents and edibles distributor in Ho, has urged President John Atta Mills to re-appraise the current tax regime on detergents and edibles.
She said this should be done with the view to stabilizing their prices, which over the past 12 months had progressively gone up by more that 50 percent.
Madam Kudaya was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after a procession by market women through the principal streets of Ho organised to thank God for peaceful elections and the transfer of power to Professor Mills as President of Ghana.
She said high prices of beverages, milk, soap and rice could affect the nutritional state of Ghanaians in the long-run.
Madam Theresa Mansa Dagbey, Volta Regional Market Queen, said the procession comprised supporters of other political parties and that it was more of a celebration of peace for Ghana than a victory for a single party.
She appealed to the new government to improve conditions in the Ho Central Market that had no crèche, lavatory and electricity.
Madam Dagbey expressed unhappiness that the immediate past government could not fulfil its promise of providing low-interest credits to market women.
