More sporting facilities to be built – Minister

Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Isaac Kwame Asiamah, has said, the Government will build more sporting facilities to augment the ten multipurpose youth centres being built across the country.

This, he said would help Ghana have enough modern sports facilities, to encourage the youth to venture into sports full time.

Mr. Asiamah, who was speaking yesterday at Navrongo in the Upper East region after inspecting works on one of the 10 multipurpose sports centres, said it’s was the priority of the government to build sporting infrastructure across the country and would continue to invest in similar projects.

“The country has been lacking modern sporting infrastructure for far too long and all this Government could do is to put in more for the youth, which would help them to develop their potentials.

“The modern multipurpose youth and sports centres, which would host both indoor and outdoor sporting disciplines would be completed in few months, but we would also build more of such facilities to add up to what is already being constructed,” he added.

According to him, there was no need to put pressure on the contractors on site, which would only result in shoddy works.

“I would urge the contractors to produce a quality job, that would benefit generations unborn.

“There have been good performances across all the regions by contractors. The scope of work is on point and we are certain they would complete come out with an excellent work”.

The multipurpose youth and sports centres are being done in collaboration with the National Youth Authority (NYA).

It is aimed at giving the Ghanaian youth access to development through sports, which is a major tool for nation building.

Mr.Emmanuel Asigri, Chief Executive Officer of the NYA in an interview with GNA sports urged the youth to take advantage of the project and develop their talents.

Meanwhile, Mr Benjamin Ngoswini, the Contractor working on the Navrongo project,  has assured the people of Ghana and Navrongo, that they would complete the work, within the next five months.

“Everything we would need have been provided by government and I can assure you that we are putting in our maximum best to achieve something worth the money being invested in the project for years to come.
