Fire service commissions early fire detection system

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has commissioned a Model Fire Safety System at the headquarters to help monitor the development of fire in case of an outbreak.

The early detection and warning system is made up of a call point (switch), control panel, an alarm and smoke detectors.

The smoke detectors have been installed in all departments within the edifice and can prompt personnel when there is fire in the building.

The device, which is worth GH₵5,000.00, was donated to the GNFS by Pyrotechnics Limited to enhance fire safety measures at the headquarters.

Mr Emmanuel Azagba Nyako, a Retired Fire Officer and Chief Technical Officer, Pyrotechnics Limited, commissioning the device said, the GNFS had been operating for a long while without such a device and as such management of the company thought it wise for the support to prevent an outbreak.

He said the smoke detector would monitor the development of fire even when there is nobody in the building and could sound an alarm for people around the area especially the security personal to be aware that something was wrong.

Mr Ekow E. Blankson, the Chief Fire Officer, expressed gratitude to Pyrotechnics Limited for the support to enhance their fire safety measures.

He said, even though they have smoke detectors, the newly installed system was more advanced and could easily detect the start of fire in case of an outbreak, adding that, similar devices would be installed at the regional offices.

The Chief Fire Officer honoured Mr Nyako with a citation and a plaque for his contribution towards the fire service.
