One nabbed over murder of a motorbike rider
A 25 year old motorbike rider, Ahumah Hormeku, has been arrested by the police for the alleged murder of another motorbike rider last week at Matsekope, near Sege in the Ada West District.
The body of the deceased, Abdulai Ossah, also aged 25, was found in a prostrate position in a pool of blood on the Luhuor-Matsekope pathway, a day after he failed to return from work.
Mr. George Aboagye, a District Superintendent of Police (DSP) in charge of Ada West District told the Ghana News Agency that the deceased on Tuesday January 22, this year, left his Bedeku family home near Kasseh for work but did not return, until his body was found the following day.
He said police arrived at the crime scene and found blood oozing from the nose, with a 1.7 meter long nylon rope around his neck and two sharp cuts on the right side of the neck and the left leg.
Mr. Aboagye said the suspect’s helmet was found around the body and his bike was also located elsewhere in the area.
He was of the view Ossah was murdered somewhere and his body dumped at the spot as there was no sign of a struggle and the grass was also not disturbed at the scene.
The District Commander said, an autopsy has since been conducted on the body at the Police Hospital in Accra, revealing the deceased died of a neck twist and that his neck bone was found to have been broken.
On Hormeku”s arrest, he explained that about three weeks earlier, the deceased physically assaulted Hormeku’s father, a driver at Kasseh in neighbouring Ada East District, and the case was reported to the police there.
He said the case however, was withdrawn and amicably settled at home, restoring peace among the two parties.
The Commander said the suspect, apparently not happy about the assault of his father and case settlement, on January 22, this year, picked quarrel with the deceased and threatened to deal with him for assaulting his father until the two were separated.
He said in the evening of the same day, someone engaged the deceased for his services, but he did not return home.
Mr. Aboagye said, the case has nothing to with robbery as the deceased money bag containing his money, mobile phone, helmet and motor bike were not taken away.
He said the Hormeku will soon be put before court, with efforts also underway to track down his father to aid the investigations.
