Chiefs want quality education for Bukunor

Nana Jacob Tei Kofi, Dade Mantse (Sub-chief) of Bukunor Junction, near Asesewa in the Eastern Region says it will require an estimated GH₵ 15,000.00 to purchase dual desks for the only school in the community.

He said the Bukunor Basic School also lack basic equipment and materials for its laboratory and workshop, a situation that is affecting the practical teaching in the school.

Nana Tei Kofi expressed the sentiment when he and his elders of old Bukunor communities visited the school to find out the challenges facing the school, and how to help solve those challenges.

He said several appeals by the school authorities to the education directorate have “hit the rock”.

He said the chiefs and elders had decided to source funds for the rehabilitation and provision of dual desks for the school and therefore appealed to government, the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Non-Governmental and Charitable Organisations, public spirited individuals, corporate bodies, as well as the district assembly to come to their aid.

The Dade Mantse called on the government to take up its responsibility to promote access to quality education at the basic level and provide the needed resources for the rehabilitation of the school.

He commended the teaching staff of the school for their hard work under deplorable condition.

Some few weeks ago, GNA published a story that inadequate furniture at the Bukunor Junction Basic and Junior High School, compelled pupils to write on the bare floor as a result of which the chiefs and elders of the area decided to visit the school.
