Government awards Nsaba and Duakwa town roads on contract – DCE
The Central Government has awarded Agona Nsaba and Agona Duakwa town roads on contract to facilitate easy transportation of goods and services.
Mr Dennis Armah-Frempong, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Agona East, made this known when he addressed the chiefs and elders of Nsaba Traditional Area as they marked the celebration of Adae Kese festival at Nsaba.
The 7.5 kilometer town road would give a befitting facelift to the two towns, especially Nsaba which is the District Capital of Agona East, he said.
Mr Armah-Frempong said the stretch of road from Agona Nsaba, to Akim Eshiem was in a very deplorable state and the situation pose a threat to commuters and drivers plying Agona Swedru/ Akim Oda road.
The government, in the past, has spent huge sums of money to patch pot holes and it did not yield the desired results and has, therefore, decided to undertake a major rehabilitation from Agona Swedru/ Akim Eshiem, he said.
The DCE said the contract was part of the Sinohydro 2 billion dollar leverage facility from China to help construct some of the roads in the districts.
Mr Armah-Frempong assured the chiefs that the road from Agona Swedru/ Adeiso/ Awutu Bawjiase has been captured in the 2019 budget and Chinese contractors would get to site soon.
More so, he said, a contract awarded by the previous government for the construction of a three classroom block at Agona Nintah has been re-awarded to new contractor.
He said the Assembly has also re-roofed another three classroom block at Nintah which had its roof ripped off during a severe rainstorm that hit the town recently.
The foot bridge at Agona Nampong over River Akora which totally cut off the Nampong community from the rest of the district each time it overflow its banks, has been constructed and would soon be commissioned, Mr Armah-Frempong said.
On education, he pledged the support of the Assembly to the Ghana Education Service (GES) directorate to provide teachers and staff with the required logistics to improve the performance of basic schools in the Area.
The DCE announced that Kwesi Paintsil and Krobofom villages would soon be connected to the national grid, adding that the contractor has moved to the site to begin work.
Mr Armah-Frempong called on the chiefs and land owners to release more land to serve as land banks for the Assembly to undertake future projects and this would help prevent the situation where government projects were unduly delayed due to the difficulty in securing land.
Osabarimaba Boappiah Afriyie III, Omanhene of Nsaba Traditional Area, had earlier appealed to the government to reconstruct the Agona Swedru/Akim Eshiem/ Akim Oda roads for easy transportation of goods and services.
He also called for an upgrade of the Nsaba Health Center to District Hospital level to ensure effective health care delivery as critical cases are still being referred to Agona Swedru, Winneba and Breman Asikuma hospitals.
