Gas leakage scare at GHUMCO
Officials of the Ghana National Fire Service in Takoradi on Wednesday morning successfully evacuated workers of the Sekondi-based Ghana Households Utility Company (GHUMCO) when they detected gas leakage within the premises of the Company.
According to an eye witness at about 06:55 hours, a gas tanker came to discharge gas but they realized that the gas was leaking causing chaos at the facility.
The fire service was immediately called in and they managed to stabilize the situation and evacuated all the workers to a safer environment.
The situation compelled the fire service and the police to block the main Takoradi-Sekondi road where the incident occurred for more than two hours.
The National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Fire service, the driver and mate of the fuel tanker as well as and GHUMCO officials are meeting to discuss the incident and the way forward.
It would be recalled that two years ago, GHUMCO witnessed a serious gas explosion injuring more than one hundred people.
The Western region Security Council then put in place a committee to investigate the cause of the explosion, the committee after its report recommended that GHUMCO should always ensure that there are fire service personnel around anytime they discharged Gas but that has not been fully observed by the company.
