US President, Donald Trump tests positive for COVID-19

Donald TrumpHours after one of his aides, Hope Hicks tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), US President Donald Trump and wife, Melania Trump have both tested positive for the disease.

In a tweet Friday October 2, 2020, Trump announced that both he and Melania have tested positive for COVID-19 and they are in quarantine.

“Tonight, FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!” He tweeted.

Mr. Trump who has consistent been inconsistent about the disease since the outbreak and has continued to blame China for the pandemic, has also said at the beginning of the outbreak that the virus would just disappear.

According to the Johns Hopkins University, the US currently has recorded more than seven million (7,277,814) infections of the COVID-19 and more than 200,000 (207,808) deaths, making the US the country with the highest infections and death rates as at October 2.

He once suggested to doctors that if the virus could be killed under heat and ultra-violet light, they could find a way to get “ultra-violet light and heat on the inside to kill the virus.” He has also suggested the use of disinfectants on the inside to kill the virus.

Trump who has consistently gone against advice and refused to wear a facemask, which he only has done a few times, has organized rallies where most of the supporters and close advisors have not worn masks.

Mr. Trump who has constantly ridiculed his main opponent Joe Biden, for wearing a facemask, once said he wouldn’t like to wear a mask in the presence of journalists, because they would have a field day reporting about it. He has also regularly been attacking the media, describing them as ‘fake news’ media, whenever they published critical information about him. He only speaks well about the media when they publish favourable information about him.

Trump who surprisingly won the 2016 US elections against Hillary Clinton, who was widely expected to have won, is facing a stiff competition against former Vice-President Joe Biden in November in a contest most describe as decisive for America’s unity.
