We are almost there – McCarthy
Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Philemon McCarthy believes his side is ready to put up a challenge for the league title after their impressive 2:0 win over Gamba All Blacks in the Glo Premier league Sunday.
Obed Ansah and Samuel Afum scored against All Blacks in a match the Phobians dominated and created several chances.
The win puts Hearts second on the league table and separated only by a goal difference from Tema Youth.
Hearts’ goalie, Philemon McCarthy says his team is ready for the challenge ahead.
“I think with today’s performance we are almost there,” he said.
The local Black Stars goalkeeper added that, “this is what the coach has been expecting from us all this while, that is just keep the ball, move forward and all that.”
“But I think the fans are not used to this kind of play, kick and follow and all that.
The Hearts midfield which had failed to show much promise this season also came to life on the day.
Kofi Abanga made his long awaited return to the team, Esme Mends played in the defensive midfield role while Douglas Nkrumah and Obed Ansah played on the flanks.
“The midfield showed lots of confidence on the ball today coupled with a great team work and movements here and there,” he added.
