Ghanaian artists told to add value to their works

Ghanaian artists have been admonished to adopt the best of practices in their work so as to add value to their products.

Mr. Ben Ohene-Ayeh, Public Relations Manager of the Ghana Tourist Board (GTB), who made the call, was of the conviction that local art works such as paintings, sculptures, among others, depicting Ghanaian cultural beliefs and practices as well as the eco-system and biodiversity have the potential to generate substantial foreign exchange for the nation if well done.

He was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi after the opening session of a day’s Photographic Exhibition mounted by the Kumasi Centre of the Alliance Francaise in collaboration with the French Embassy.

The event was dubbed; “In Exchange”, and had Ghanaian artist Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh and French artist Charles Sauvat exhibit some of their works demonstrating the cultural diversity of the two countries and personal experiences of the artists.

Mr Ohene-Ayeh stressed the need for parents to encourage their wards to take up art courses in their education, especially at the highest level to help bring out their inherent creativity.

The Public Relations Manager lauded the French Embassy for their continuous support for cultural programmes in the country and hoped institutions such as the Centre for National Culture (CNC) would do same to benefit the nation’s socio-economic development.

Mr. Julien dal Bosco, Kumasi Centre Manager of the Alliance Francaise, pointed out that the exhibition was the outcome of a meeting between the two artists following the four months’ exchange programme of the French artist.

He announced that his outfit had drawn up numerous cultural programmes for this year to enable the citizenry to appreciate their cultural heritage and legacy.
