Volta Star Textile workers on strike
Workers of the Volta Star Textile Limited at Juapong in the Volta Region, have embarked on an industrial action to demand better conditions of service and the dismissal of the Senior Staff.
The workers claimed that Management was insensitive to problems facing them and called on the Board of Directors be make new appointments to run the factory efficiently.
They are also asking for an increment in the five cedis allowance per day, which they said was too small.
The workers aired their views when they met with the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr John Gyetuah on Thursday.
They expressed dissatisfaction about the undue delay of by Management to serve them with appointment letters, adding that some of them had worked for more than three years without official endorsement.
Mr Gyetuah appealed to the aggrieved workers to call off their strike action as government initiate moves to resolve their grievances.
The North Tongu District Chief Executive, Alhaji Bube Dzinadu asked the workers to allow the factory to operate as they seek redress to their problems.
He said they have genuine grievances that must be dealt with.
