First Ghana Table Tennis Training Camp launched
The Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Council (NSC), Worlanyo K. Agrah has launched Ghana’s first ever national table tennis model teams weekend training camp which is aimed at preparing national table tennis players for international assignments.
Mr Agrah commended the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) for the initiative and promised that the Council and the Ministry of Youth and Sports will continue to support such progressive training programmes.
He therefore advised the players to be disciplined and train harder not only to justify Government spending on table tennis to make the necessary impact in the sport.
Mr Agrah appealed to companies and individuals to join and support the growth and development of table tennis in the country and commended Mr Samuel Tobin, Chief Executive of Tobinco Pharmaceuticals, J. A. Biney & Co. Ltd and Mr Kwabena Dei, CEO of Mallas Ice Company for donating towards the organisation of the training camp.
Mr Kwame Amponfi Jr, Secretary General of the GTTA in explaining the concept, said the weekend training camp will subject Ghana’s best table tennis players to rigorous residential tactical and technical table tennis skills every weekend at the D. G. Hathiramani Sports Hall at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra.
He said the nucleus of players from the Under-15, 18 and senior table tennis teams will take active part in the weekly exercise as they battle for a place in the national team.
In all 24 members from the seniors, juniors and cadet categories drawn from the regions, schools and the security services participated in the first exercise.
