Residents of Old Ningo cry for potable water
Residents of Old Ningo in the Dangme West District have expressed concern about the acute water shortage facing them over the past six months and appealed for assistance.
They said at a forum that construction of boreholes by DANIDA would help bring relief to the community.
A seven-member committee has been set up to plead with the Ghana Water Company to allow DANIDA to use their pipe lines to supply the town with potable water.
Nene Kanor Atiapah III, Acting President of the Great Ningo Traditional Council who addressed the forum, expressed concern about the high rates residents were paying for water by tanker operators.
Nene Atiapah said the people were ready to offer communal labour on the DANIDA water project and expressed the hope that GWC would agree with the people’s proposal in order to solve the water problem facing the community.
Mrs Catherine Akutteh, Mrs Gwendolyn Sarah Addo and Mr Ammeck Appenteng Nartey, all assembly members of the town, said the water situation had impacted negatively on production, because most workers had to spend hours on end in search of water for their household chores before going to work.
