UNESCO presents posters to Ministry of Tourism

The Ministry of Tourism was presented with posters, which portrayed Ghana’s intangible cultural heritage in Accra on Friday.

The Ministry by United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Office for the West African sub region based in Accra made the presentation.

The various images developed for the posters included beads, goldsmiths, boats, textiles, coffins, drums and kente weavers would be displayed at strategic places such as the airports, hotels, foreign and local missions.

The 250 posters which each measured two metres by three metres would also serve as an advocacy tools for the attraction of both local and foreign investments into the tourism sector.

Handing over the posters to the ministry, Madam Elizabeth Moundo, UNESCO Country Representative and Director of the Office, said the initiative was developed to enable foreigners understand Ghana’s cultural heritage much better.

She appealed to government to ratify the United Nations Conventions on Culture for the country to benefit.

Mr. Kobby Acheampong, Deputy Minister of Tourism, who received the posters thanked the UNESCO for the initiative and assistance to promote Ghana’s cultural values.

He said government was working hard to turn tourism, the fourth exchange earner for the country after gold, cocoa and remittances to take the number one slot and urged all stakeholders to help in achieving that target.
