Man jailed 24 months for stealing mobile phone

The Winneba Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 19-year-old mechanist apprentice from Winneba to 24 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a mobile phone and 15 Ghana cedis.

Obed Kojo Atta pleaded guilty.

Police Chief Inspector Moses Naa-Kolgo Agbegne told the court presided over by Mr Ben B. Attabra that on February 11 the complainant, whose name was not mentioned in court, woke up from his sleep and saw the convict standing his room.

He raised the alarm and the convict was arrested with the help of other tenants and when he was searched the mobile phone and the amount were found in his pocket.

The prosecution had pleaded for a tougher punishment, arguing that the convict was a criminal and that on February 02, the court fined him 240 Ghana cedis for attempting to steal.
